Learn satellite meteorology!

Meteorology is an excellent topic to introduce middle and high school students to geoscience, physics, chemistry and applied mathematics. Satellite Meteorology provides scientists and educators with exciting tools for investigation, inquiry, analysis and stewardship.

The material was designed to challenge students through the end of 12th grade so middle school teachers and students may want to skim or skip a few sections.

Course content was developed at the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Space Science and Engineering Center (SSEC) with help from experts at the Advanced Satellite Products Branch (ASPB). Most of the satellite images were generated at CIMSS/SSEC. Additional resources referenced include several NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) and NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) web sites. Most of the graphics in this course came from CIMSS Director Dr. Steve Ackerman's Meteorology text book entitled "Understanding the Atmosphere" (Ackerman & Knox, 2002).
